Weetwood Hall ladies in the charity race
Ladies at Weetwood Hall: Julie Abbott, Karen Ellin, Marie Astle, Sarah Byers, Danielle Hyam and Samantha Kershaw have joined up for an honorable and worthwhile cause to raise money for charity.
Julie Abbott: "After my friend died from cancer in 2003, her daughter and I decided to join the Race for Life in memory of her Mum and to help raise money for Cancer Research UK. This is the third year we've taken part in the race at Bradford's Lister Park and the atmosphere is great. It's very moving to see so many people (approx. 5000 in each race) gathered together doing something positive and all of them have been touched by the disease in one way or another."
They participated in separate Race for Life events throughout Yorkshire and managed to raise £899. Race for Life is the largest fundraising event inviting women to walk, jog or run 5km and help raise money for cancer.
Karen Ellin: "In 2004 my mum was diagnosed with breast cancer, thankfully she is a survivor and she completed the Race for Life with me in Huddersfield this year. The atmosphere is fantastic with everyone taking part feeling they are doing something worth while to help fight this awful disease."
