What’s coming up at The Great Yorkshire Show 2015
When it comes to entertaining the kids in the summer holidays, there are lots of events in Yorkshire to choose from. The county seemingly has it all, from concerts and sporting days to more traditional events – such as The Great Yorkshire Show in Harrogate.
The Great Yorkshire Show 2015 is an agricultural event like no other, being the largest of its kind in the county and boasting such a wide range of attractions that there really is something for all ages. The Show attracts more than 130,000 visitors every year thanks to its bursting programme of attractions and events, which takes place over three days from Tuesday 14th July to Thursday 16th July 2015.
One of the biggest draws of the show, whether you’re in the agriculture business or not, is the fantastic range of animal attractions at the Great Yorkshire Show. Adults and children alike will enjoy the chance to see more than 5,000 of Britain’s finest livestock, including sheep, pigs and cattle, along with 2,000 horses taking part in equine classes and show-jumping competitions. There are also bird of prey displays, sheep-shearing contests and excitingly – the Shetland Pony Grand National takes to the Main Ring for 2015.
Food and drink
The Show is also a foodie’s paradise, with a main highlight being one of Britain’s largest Cheese and Dairy Shows. The Food Hall boasts some of the best quality produce and most delicious food and drink from the region, and there are other sumptuous dining experiences available practically at every turn. Plus, as an extra-special treat, some of Yorkshire’s most respected chefs will be sharing their secrets in the Cookery Theatre.
Shopping, music and more
There are simply too many exciting events taking place at this year’s Show to list, but highlights of the best of the rest include:
- Military displays
- Band performances
- Agricultural machinery
- Cutting edge forestry
- Traditional blacksmith displays
- Equine parades
- Shopping from country clothing brands and gift companies from across the UK
We also mustn’t forget to mention The Garden Show, a must-visit for all budding and seasoned horticulturists. Along with hints and tips from the experts, there are also sessions from BBC Radio York Gardeners, garden show awards, a session on Growing Fruit with Hilary Dodson from Northern Fruit Growers, School Vegetable Box Awards for young growers and also something a bit different – ‘Wicked Plants ?!! A glimpse into the world of Carnivorous plants’ with Peter Walker of Wack.
