The best of British: A look at British Pie Week 2015
If you still have fond memories of Pancake Day but just can’t wait until the chocolate-fest that is Easter, you’ll be delighted to know that there’s another hugely exciting foodie event for your calendar coming up very soon – it’s nearly time for British Pie Week 2015!
Coming up on 2nd to 8th March 2015, this fantastic event is a celebration of the great British pie in all of its many forms, sweet or savoury, hot, cold, main meal and snack-size. Despite being a nation of pie-lovers, it’s surprising how many of us haven’t heard of British Pie Week before.
This year, make sure you don’t miss out – get ready for a whole week of making, tasting and talking about pastry, fillings and accompaniments. You might even find yourself in an argument with fellow pie fans over which is better – flaky pastry or shortcrust.
So, what’s actually going on during British Pie Week 2015? Well, this is where traditional pub food venues and gastropubs really come into their own. Eateries up and down the country will be putting on special menus and creating ever more exciting combinations of pie fillings, whilst the public are encouraged to don aprons and head into the kitchen to create their own pies.
There are lots of recipes to try on the British Pie Week website, and you can also combine your more successful efforts with Comic Relief 2015, which takes place the following week. Rather than the usual cookies and cakes, why not have a Great British Pie Sale to raise money for this worthy cause?
