February is here and that means a special day is approaching – Valentine’s Day. Lovers everywhere will make the most of spending a romantic evening in each other’s company this February 14th. Being the most romantic day of the year, Valentine’s Day is naturally a popular time to pop the big question to the love of your life. Weetwood Hall offers some advice and inspiration on how to plan a romantic Valentine’s Day proposal.

Decide on a venue

The place where you propose to your loved one is as important as the date. Asking for their hand in marriage over a candle-lit dinner for two in an atmospheric and friendly restaurant radiates ardour and passion. As does whisking your lover off on a romantic escape and popping the big question in an exciting new city.

Buy your loved one a special Valentine’s gift and present the engagement ring with the gift

Valentine’s Day is made for indulging. Ensure the love of your life gets the five-star treatment she or he deserves by giving them a romantic gift.

Chocolates, flowers, perfume and lingerie are amongst the most popular of romantic gifts for Valentine’s Day. Why not seize on the romance of the occasion by presenting a sparkling engagement ring to your loved one with a Valentine’s gift. A box of chocolates will be even more appetising with a diamond ring shining tantalisingly inside.

Avoid over planning

We all want a wedding proposal to be memorable and special but we don’t want to run the risk of a proposal for marriage to be over-the-top and a tad cheesy, especially on Valentine’s Day!

As the Huffington Post advises in its ‘Valentine’s Day Proposals Dos and Don’ts’ feature, avoid over planning.

“Keep in mind that you can go overboard. You don’t need singers, dancers, limos, helicopters, flowers, picture frames, guitarists, Malachi bands, jugglers, and more. Just a couple of “big” surprises are more than enough and even that is not necessary,” says Proposal Planner Michele Velazquez in the Huffington Post. (Yes, proposal planners do exist!)
