Innovative ideas to keep the children entertained these summer holidays

The summer holidays are here and as children everywhere rejoice, parents start to ponder about how they are going to keep their children entertained for the next six weeks! Fortunately help is at hand as Weetwood Hall explores some innovative ideas to keep the children entertaining during the long summer break.

Make use of your outdoor space

Whether you’ve got a large garden or a small backyard, encourage your children to get outdoors in the fresh air this summer. As the parent charity Family Lives advises, organising a treasure hunt with clues to uncover and treats to find, building a den and making a picnic are all great activities to get children outside in the summer.

If you have a tent, why not put it up in your back garden and let the children sleep it in for the night? A memorable occasion that’s for sure and one that won’t cost a penny!

Get creative

Children adore making things so why not devote some time to having arts and crafts days? Cover the dining table or the floor with a large sheet and get out the paints, canvases, empty toilet rolls, crayons, beads, glue and scissors and have some creative fun at home.

Making summer crafts can be an entertaining and creative way to spend an afternoon in the summer holidays, whilst celebrating the beauty of the summer. From making butterfly crafts to beach sculptures, Activity Village provides some great summer crafts ideas with kids.

Days out

Whilst there’s plenty of innovative things we can do to get creative and have fun with the kids at home, you simply can’t beat a fun family day out.

We have to admit, Leeds and its vicinity is brimming with many fabulous things to do with children all summer long.

The Leeds Wall

For children who love to climb why not take them to the Leeds Wall, a modern climbing facility for young climbers of all abilities. This exciting climbing complex includes a range of thrilling walls and boulders to climb for children over the age of six in what promises to be a truly memorable family day out.
