Christmas celebrations – what’s on in Leeds this December
You might think it’s too early to start thinking about Christmas, but event planners throughout the city of Leeds certainly don’t! There are already dozens of events on the Leeds Christmas events calendar, and here are just a selection of the highlights:
For many people, the highlight of the festive season in Leeds is Christkindelmarkt, the traditional German Christmas market that occupies the impressive Millennium Square in the centre of the city. This well-established market has over 40 stalls, all housed in traditional wooden chalets and featuring authentic German traders selling everything from handmade toys, Christmas cards and decorations to speciality foods including stollen, gluhwein, bratwurst sausages and schnitzel. Christkindelmarkt runs from 13th November to 20th December 2015.
A Christmas Killing at Thackray Medical Museum
Probably not one for the kids, but endlessly fascinating for the grown-ups – the Thackray Medical Museum is providing the perfect setting for a festive murder mystery evening. With a welcome drink, 3-course meal and a Christmas party murder mystery to get stuck in, Friday 18th December is set to be an enjoyable yet spine-tingling evening!
St Gemma’s Hospice Christmas Market
If you simply can’t get enough of Christmas markets, visit St Gemma’s Hospice from 4th December to enjoy food, drink, decorations and lots of stalls boasting gifts, crafts, jewellery, clothing and even Nordman Christmas trees, with all proceeds going towards a very worthy cause. Plus Santa will be in his grotto for the little ones!
Kate Rusby at Christmas
Folk singer Kate Rusby will be putting on an extra special Christmas performance on Wednesday 16th December at Leeds Town Hall, to the delight of fans of her beautiful, expressive vocals. Joined by a sublime brass quintet, Kate’s joy-filled Christmas tour has become a crucial part of the festive celebrations in this part of the world.
Christmas Adventure at Stockeld Park
Between 21st October 2015 and 4th January 2016, Stockeld Park in Weatherby is transformed into a Christmas wonderland packed with fun festive activities for all the family. With a magical gift emporium, sleigh parade (with real reindeer!) and lots of Adventure Zones, as well as the chance to pick up a hand-pruned Christmas tree grown on the estate – this fantastic day out is bound to fill you with Christmas spirit!
Not forgetting…office Christmas parties in Leeds
As well as all the scheduled Christmas events in Leeds this year, you can also expect a host of office Christmas parties to take place in venues across the city. If you’re in charge of planning your office ‘do’, don’t leave it too late – as the best venues get booked up very quickly and you don’t want to miss out! Weetwood Hall in Leeds, just outside the city centre, is a hugely popular Christmas party venue – known for its fantastic food, drink and entertainment. Weetwood’s party suites also offer all the space you’ll need, along with comfortable, modern rooms for your guests to recover in when the party’s all over.
