Beat the half-term boredom: Things to do with the kids at half-term
The school holidays are nearly here and parents around the country are busy making half-term itineraries to help stave off school holiday boredom and keep the kids entertained. If you’re planning on being in Leeds during half-term then organising an exciting, varied and fun-for-all-the-family half-term itinerary should not be too difficult.
Take a look at some great ideas for fun family days out this half-term in Leeds.
Visit the Ice Cube
There’s nothing quite like a skate on the ice for some fabulously fun entertainment at half-term, not to mention great exercise. The Ice Cube returns to Leeds’s Millennium Square. As well as an exhilarating ice rink there’s other frosty activities for the kids to enjoy, including the snow slide and the North Pole Starflyer.
The Ice Cube is at the Millennium Square from Friday 22 January until Sunday 21 February 2016. For more information and to book tickets visit the Leeds.gov website.
MFA Bowl Leeds
One hugely entertaining way to spend a day with the kids this half-term would be taking a visit to MFA Bowl in Leeds.
Have a fun-filled game of tenpin bowling, a classic family favourite, which never lets you down, regardless of the unpredictable February half-term weather!
With other amusements including pool tables, dance-offs, combat shoot outs and many more, there’s plenty to do to idle away the day at the MFA Bowl Leeds.
See the Eastern Warriors at the Royal Armouries Museum
There’s nothing quite as exciting as being face-to-face with some grisly-looking warriors. Take the children on a fun and educational day out in Leeds this half-term to see the Eastern Warriors at the Royal Armouries Museum.
The Eastern Warriors will be adorned in Eastern treasures from India, including weapons laden with sparkling jewels and elephant armour. As well as watching the warriors take part in martial arts demonstrations, dance and music performances, they’ll be Indian art and craft activities for the kids to participate in.
Eastern Warriors will be at the Royal Armouries Museum from Saturday 13 February until Sunday 21 February 2016. For more information visit the Royal Armouries Museum website.
Learn how to dissect hearts at the Heart Dissection Workshops
Granted, this activity won’t tickle everyone’s fancy but for all those budding young scientists out there, this will certainly be one to remember!
Held at the Thackray Medical Museum from Monday 15 February until Friday 19 February 2016, the Heart Dissection workshops will show children how our blood gets pumped through our hearts and why it’s important to keep the heart healthy.
Watch The Bear at the West Yorkshire Playhouse
The Snowman author Raymond Briggs’ lesser-known story, The Bear is coming to the West Yorkshire Playhouse this half-term. With mesmerising music, storytelling and puppetry, youngsters will be fascinated by this enthralling story about a little girl’s encounter with a polar bear.
The Bear is showing at the West Yorkshire Playhouse from Wednesday 17 February until Saturday 20 February, 2016.
